The African Union (AU) is now accepting applications for its 2022 Continental Essay Competition from African youth aged 18 to 35. The deadline to submit submissions for the African Union Continental Essay Competition is April 19th, 2022. Essays will be reviewed as they are submitted.

An chance for African youth to submit their thoughts, ideas, and experiences on the topic of “Leadership for the Africa We Want,” with successful contributions contributing to the Pan-African Young Leaders Training Manual.

African Union Continental Essay Competition 2022/2023 Awards/Prizes

Participation is entirely optional. Winners will receive a certificate of appreciation, their ideas will be included in the Pan-African Young Leaders Training Manual, and they will be highlighted on the Pan-African Young Leaders Program webpage.

African Union Continental Essay Competition 2022/2023 Application Guidelines

• The Essay is written by an African Youth between the ages of 18 and 35 who is a citizen of one of the 55 African Union member states and lives either in Africa or in the diaspora.
• The essay can be up to 1000 words long.
• Participation in the competition is strongly encouraged for young women.
• The essay should be emailed to essay@youlead.africa in PDF format.
• Please submit a copy of your national identification card or passport.
• The essay must be written in one of the African Union’s official languages.
