MBBS Accreditation at ABSU School of Medical Sciences has been revoked
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has revoked the Abia State University School of Medical Sciences MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) Program’s full accreditation.
The Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) has revoked Abia State University’s school of medical sciences’ accreditation to study medicine and surgery.
Following a lengthy trail of deficiencies at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba (ABSUTH), which serves as a training environment for Clinical Medical Students and is part of the teaching facilities, the regulatory board revoked the approval.
The School will no longer admit new students to study Medicine and Surgery, according to Dr. Chimezie Okwuonu, Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Abia State Chapter.
Okwuonu, who characterized the event as alarming, blamed it on the state administration, claiming that ABSUTH has been beset by interruptions in operations due to worker agitations and strikes over irregular salary payments. He also informed that the ABSUTH workers owes 25 months in wage arrears as of the end of April 2022.

Requirement:
- Five (5) credit level passes in English language, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics in WAEC/NECO or GCE in no more than two (2) sittings.
Health Assistant Qualifications:
Biology, English, and one of the other three (3) subjects (science, art, or commerce) must all be passed in no more than two (2) sittings in WAEC/NECO or GCE.
